Here are a few tips for caring for you glider
Sugar gliders are very active animals with high metabolisms. Therefore it is important that you keep sugar glider food in their cage at all times. For the primary meal, we recommend you serve them the fresh diet listed here on a daily basis in the late afternoon, periodically providing healthy treats and mealworms. And of course make sure they have fresh filtered water at all times. In addition to the primary meal, keeping cereal and monkey biscuits in their cage as "free feed" options is highly recommended.
The Pet Glider Fresh Diet: The Pet Glider Fresh Diet consists of apple sauce, yogurt, calcium-fortified orange juice, oatmeal, protein (chicken, turkey or eggs), fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits. 1 ½ tablespoons per glider per day served in late afternoon. The recipe follows.
Vitamins: You must sprinkle a good multivitamin/multi-mineral, with calcium, on your gliders food everyday. These should be specifically made for sugar gliders with calcium to phosphorous ratio of at least 2:1.DO NOT USE REPTILE VITAMINS FOR YOUR SMALL MAMMAL! The Pet Glider Complete Multi-Vitamin with Calcium is the only human grade vitamin supplement on the market. It is sold by many other breeders and supply companies all over the United States. It comes in a 180 and 360 day supply and can be purchased through The Pet Glider store on our website. We cannot stress enough how important additional vitamins are to the health of your sugar gliders. The sugar glider's high diet of fruits and vegetables contains inverse amounts of phosphorous to calcium. High phosphorus and low calcium leaches calcium from their bones making the bones brittle and easily broken or fractured. Calcium deficiency will make your glider sick, then will cause hind leg or total paralysis, and will kill them. If you notice any trembling or shaking (on a consistent basis, not just when scared), or any trouble climbing in the cage or hanging on to the perch, contact your exotic animal vet immediately. Neocalglucon or Calciquid (calcium glubionate in a sweet syrup), is an excellent product to rebuild calcium quickly, your vet (one who is very knowledgeable in sugar gliders) can instruct you on how much and how often to give this calcium supplement. Do not feed these high phosphorous foods: beef, most seeds, nuts and cottage cheese – eliminate these foods from your gliders diet. Corn is also high in phosphorus and should be fed sparingly and an occasional almond is fine. Just think moderation. Prevention is your safest bet, so use vitamins daily and we feel ours is the best. Fresh Water: You must be sure to provide your sugar glider with fresh water daily. We recommend you use filtered water and never let your water bottle be empty. As an additional beverage, you can mix ½ filtered water with ½ 100% fruit juice; like 100% apple juice, but we recommend that only 3 times per week. WE DO NOT recommend Glideraide because it is high in sugar and it contains an unspecified amount of vitamins which could be too much when combined with other vitamins given on a daily basis. We recommend the Lixit glass water bottle and it is available on our store on our website. CLICK HERE TO ORDER
Cereal: The premium cereal we use here at The Pet Glider is a SunCoast product that is high in protein and low in fat. It has human-grade chicken, whole grain rice, and many other nutritious ingredients. Keep a small bowl in the cage at all times. We recommend 1 tablespoon per glider per day. Throw out old cereal, clean the bowl and put fresh cereal in. Cereal is not a nutritional requirement for our diet, however, it is a nutritional staple food they can snack on between meals. Monkey Biscuits: We recommend and sell the Mazuri Growth and Repro biscuits which consist of 25% protein. Monkey Biscuits are not a nutritional requirement for our diet, however, they contain a dental guard and will help keep your sugar glider’s teeth clean and healthy. Our recommendation is ½ to 1 biscuit per glider per day. CLICK HERE TO ORDER
Mealworms: The favorite healthy treat of a sugar glider (and they have told us this) is the live giant mealworm. It is a high protein treat and can be given to them on a daily basis – no more than 10-12 medium sized mealies per glider. It is also a great treat to use when bonding with your sugar glider or having fun hand feeding your pet. CLICK HERE TO ORDER
Treats: Excellent treats for sugar gliders include yogurt drops, dried fruits such as pineapple and mango, dried vegetables, and more. The Pet Glider store carries all of these treats along with other sugar glider supplies, and you can order them by clicking on their names. Also cutting up fresh fruit such as watermelon and oranges, or sweet potatoes will make your sugar gliders jump for joy. CLICK HERE TO ORDER
Our Sugar Gliders are guaranteed to arrive healthy and safe.
At the Pet Glider, we fly (ship) our sugar gliders on Pet Safe passenger planes that have climate controlled cargo areas with same day arrival. Please be aware that there is the potential for flights to be delayed or rescheduled due to issues beyond our control, such as weather or mechanical concerns. We package our gliders with extra hydrating food for this reason, and include instructions for airline personnel on the shipping crate in case of delay.
The shipping cost is $249.00 for domestic flights (United States) through Delta Airlines and this covers up to four sugar gliders. The airline that we use can vary based on your location, so please contact us if you want to know which airline would be used. This cost is for gliders shipped within the contiguous United States. The shipping costs include airfare, shipping crate and travel/sleeping pouch. We ship throughtout the United States. Cities in Canada we can ship to are: Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal. Canada is considered an international destination therefore shipping will need to be quoted. In addition, we are Expert International shippers and ship our sugar gliders worldwide. If you have additional questions about shipping to your area, please email email@example.com for more information.
Summer Heat or Winter Cold: We try to exclusively use Delta Airlines to ship our sugar gliders domestically. Their pet-safe program is top-notch and they have temperature controlled vans that transport live animals to the planes. However, Delta does not fly to all locations. Some airlines have heat or cold embargoes imposed for the safety of the animals. Live animals are not allowed to take off or land in a location where the temperature is not safe for live animals. We do our best to work around these embargoes. Be advised that we may have to postpone the arrival of your new family member until the weather in your part of the world changes either cools down or warms up. For more information about airlines and embargoes, email Stephanie at firstname.lastname@example.org or Click Here to E-mail Stephanie for your convenience.
Once you have placed an order for your Sugar Gliders you will receive a call from Stephanie or you can give her a call at 713-446-4415 to set up a shipping date to receive your Sugar Gliders. They will arrive the same day we ship, you will pick them up from your closest international airport.I Agree To The Above Terms and Understand My Local Laws On Legality Of Owning And Keeping Sugar Gliders In My Area
