Caramels (Petaurus Breviceps Flavidus) are a different sub-species from the Petaurus Breviceps our "standard" Sugar Gliders. They come from Merauke on the island Irian Jaya in Indonesia and were imported to the United States in 2009. They have a light caramel color to a light gray stripe and slightly larger ears to give an overall slightly larger appearance. Some have white hands and white wrists, and their tails are usually fluffy and generally held in a curled position (although they can straighten them as well). They are able to carry small objects with their tails.
All of our caramel gliders at The Pet Glider are 100% pure caramel, meaning that they are not crossed with the other species. Caramels also tend to have a different scent than the regular gliders, they smell slightly sweeter! Caramel sugar gliders should not be crossed with our standard sugar gliders, Petaurus Breviceps. This crossing of species causes the male offspring to be sterile and the female offspring will produce more sterile males.

At the Pet Glider, we fly (ship) our sugar gliders on Passenger Planes that have climate-controlled cargo areas (with same day arrival). Please be aware that there is the potential for flights to be delayed or rescheduled due to issues beyond our control, such as weather or mechanical concerns. We package our gliders with extra hydrating food and water gel for this reason and include instructions for airline personnel on the shipping crate in case of delay.
The shipping cost is $299.00 for domestic flights (United States) through Delta Airlines and this covers up to four sugar gliders (INCLUDES HEALTH CERTIFICATES MANDATED BY ALL AIRLINES EFFECTIVE BY 02/21/2019). The airline that we use can vary based on your location. This shipping cost is for gliders shipped within the contiguous United States. This include airfare, shipping crate and travel/sleeping pouch. We ship throughout the United States. Canada is considered an international destination; therefore, shipping will need to be discussed & quoted. In addition, we are Expert International Shippers and ship our sugar gliders worldwide. If you have additional questions about shipping to your area, please email: email@example.com
Summer Heat or Winter Cold: We try to exclusively use Delta Airlines to ship our sugar gliders domestically. Their pet-safe program is top-notch, and they have temperature-controlled vans that transport live animals to the planes. However, Delta does not fly to all locations. Some airlines have heat or cold embargoes imposed for the safety of the animals. Live animals are not allowed to take off or land in a location where the temperature is not safe for live animals. We do our best to work around these embargoes. Be advised that we may have to postpone the arrival of your new family member until the weather in your part of the world changes either cools down or warms up.
